Almost a month has passed since the release of Kassadin League of Legends: Wild Riftand already he’s boasting a 51.86% winrate and is ranked fifth among the top mid lane champions in Southeast Asia according to wildstats.gg.

That’s even after he got a health nerf in patch 3.3b, so it says a lot about how well he’s been doing lately.

With a smaller map up Wild crackthe Void Walker has the potential to finish off enemies and act like an S+ champion if used properly.

And while he’s not all that strong in the early game, you can definitely take advantage of his late game mobility due to his ult’s low cooldown.

Read on to learn how to use Kassadin to dominate the rift:

Void Stone (Passive)

When Kassadin casts a spell near a visible enemy champion, he gains a magic shield.

Void Stone is very useful for protecting Kassadin in the early game where his damage and mobility are still low. The magic shield will go up when casting a spell on or near a visible enemy.

Nullsphere (Skill 1)

Fires a ball that deals magic damage and Silences the first enemy hit.

Null Sphere is both a poke and disengage ability. The silence allows you to stop the enemy from casting abilities against you or your team. In the early game, this ability will also help you deal with the enemy mid laner and farm decently.

Nether Blade (Skill 2)

Enables his next basic attack within range to gain range, deal bonus magic damage, and restore a percentage of missing mana on hit. When Nether Blade kills the target, its remaining cooldown is reduced.

Safe farming is important for Kassadin as you focus on scaling into the mid to late game. Nether Blade is great for Wave Clear due to its long range and post effects. Killing a minion restores 50% of cooldown. You can use it to continuously farm from long distances.

Force Impulse (Ability 3)

Deals magic damage to enemies in a cone and slows them. Force Pulse is amplified after other nearby spells are cast, instead dealing increased magic damage and slowing.

Force Pulse can deal significant damage to the enemy and can be used after chasing enemies with your ultimate. Since its area of effect is decent and can hit at least two champions and more minions, consider maxing out this ability first.

Riftwalk (Ultimate)

Blinks to the target location, dealing magic damage to nearby enemies. Casting Riftwalk causes your next Riftwalk to deal more damage over a period of time and cost double the mana. (Can be charged up to 3 times).

Kassadin’s Ultimate makes him special.

Riftwalk acts like a powerful bolt of lightning, helping him wriggle in and out of teamfights and even walk through walls. They also deal some magic damage to your enemies, allowing you to easily hunt them down in the late game.

playing style

Level 5 ganking will never happen, so skip it and save the flashy plays for later. (Photo: Riot Games)

Kassadin is a mid-to-lat game scaling champion.

That being said, he’s pretty much useless in the early game, so don’t go for early game ganks and parries unless the enemy’s HP is low and you have a teammate or two who can help you out. Level 5 ganking will never happen, so skip it and save the flashy plays for later.

The early game motto for Kassadin is to survive and prosper through farming.

Pick up health items like the Ruby Crystal (don’t pick up books yet) until you can buy his first major item: Rod of Ages.

First, max out his third ability to deal him more damage and mini-trades by casting a spell on visible enemies. This activates his passive shield when you get back to safety.

Also, make sure your Kassadin has high HP in the early game until he’s fully online.

In the middle of the game (level 9) Kassadin gets stronger. Here you can perform a combo with your Ultimate and Skill 3.

Charge your ult to level 2 and only charge it to level 3 when preparing to gank or join a teamfight.

Once Kassadin reaches level 13, little counterplay is initially available (other than Zed or Pantheon). So as long as you work together with your team, you can carve your way through to victory.

One of the best builds is the Scaling Riftwalker build. This is a dual scaling route that uses both Rod of Ages and Archangel’s Staff.

This is a widely popular build as both items are vital to Kassadin’s survival and mana supply.

As mentioned, grab low health items like Ruby Crystal to help him survive first until you can buy Rod of Ages. Then you can opt for Tears of Goddess, Ionian Boots of Lucidity on the way to the Staff of Archangel.

Prioritize Stasis Enchant if you feel the enemy team is draining too much damage. Otherwise, you can opt for Rabadon’s Deathcap first if you want to get stronger faster. Next, grab the Void Wand for Magical Penetration.

The 5th item is situational. While most guides will tell you to go for Crystalline Reflector (which makes the most sense in most situations), you may need to lean towards an Infinity Orb instead if the enemy team has a lot of heals and sustain.

You can also opt for Morellonomicon for additional magic penetration when dealing with tanks.

Some teams may counter the Voidwalker with chain CC champions like Varus or Lux. Opt for Ionian Quicksilver instead of Stasis Enchant to remove all CC effects until you can kite around them faster.

Runes and Spells

Electrocute is still Kassadin’s best keystone because it deals a ton of damage that you need in the early game to outperform your enemies.

You can also take Conqueror and Fleet Footwork as keystones. Fleet Footwork works better against champions who can hit him hard.

For spells, choose Flash to give the voidwalker more freedom of movement and Ignite to handle the early game.

Are you having fun with Kassadin? Have you thought about learning his kit? Hopefully this guide has helped you appreciate it better and have more fun playing it.
