The players are in the tunnel

“Let’s be right after them guys!” says Joe Hart. It’s nice to see that he hasn’t lost any of his enthusiasm.

And out they come. This may take place at a neutral venue, but Celtic need to show signs of improvement on the road in European competition.

Postecoglu talks to BT Sport:

We work very hard every day to be a certain kind of football team.

There’s no point in coming out for it at the weekend and then changing your approach.

We want to compete with the best and that’s the stage we’re on.

Shakhtar manager Igor Jovicevic on Celtic threat

They showed what they are capable of in the Scottish Championship. They play very good combination football, a very aggressive game, a very dynamic game.

This is a high adrenaline match. There is a feeling of adrenaline and fear. A sporting fear. Without fear in sport there is no courage, no drive forward.

Can Celtic’s exciting football deliver a Champions League win?

Celtic won plenty of praise for their general play against Real Madrid last week but were unable to pick up any points as they ran out of breath after Vinicius Jr’s opening goal pierced a memorable atmosphere at Parkhead.

The enterprising interplay and energetic defensive style that Ange Postecoglou has mastered on the domestic front came into its own, with Reo Hatate excelling. Carlo Ancelotti admitted the Champions League holders “suffered” in the first 45 minutes against Celtic when Callum McGregor hit the post. Postecoglou wants his team to produce this football for a longer period of time tonight and realistically Celtic need some form of result if they are to progress in the group.

“I was a bit frustrated and disappointed because it’s not just about playing our football for a period of time,” Postecoglou said. “I see no reason why we couldn’t have done this longer.

β€œIn relation to who we played against, I understand that you are playing against one of the best teams in the world at the moment, maybe the best.

“Looking back, the disappointing thing was that after we conceded, we quickly conceded another. It wasn’t necessary.”

There will be no minute’s silence ahead of Celtic’s Champions League clash with Shakhtar in Poland. The position was confirmed by Uefa following a routine pre-match meeting between the two clubs and the governing body on Wednesday.

The Ukrainian club were granted permission to show anti-war messages on pre-match screens at Legia Warsaw stadium.

Shakhtar has been evicted from its home stadium since 2014 over conflicts in eastern Ukraine.

The Ukraine side achieved a remarkable result in their first group game, scoring four goals at RB Leipzig, with young winger Mykhaylo Mudryk – linked with a move to Arsenal – helping with the goals.
