The Old Town Road singer strutted down the New York Fashion Week runway for Coach on Sunday in an all-leather outfit – and jelly sandals. Yes, your childhood is calling and it wants you to spend money on the things you’ve made fun of for the last twenty years.
His runway look consisted of a distressed black leather vest with buckles at the shoulder, dark brown leather shorts (with the same buckle details), a glittery gold handbag and, of course, purple jelly sandals.
“It was such a fun experience to be a part of the Coach show and to walk my very first runway,” the rapper said of his show experience.
Famous faces in the front row watching him show off his leather suit included Doja Cat, TikTok sensation Abby Roberts and Chicken Shop Dates star Amelia Dimoldenberg. The coach called and Gen Z basically showed up.
Lil Nas X and Coach have been close since his 2019 hit single with Billy Ray Cyrus took control of the charts and refused to let go.
In fact, Coach has created six bespoke looks for Lil Nas X’s current world tour — the Long Live Montero World Tour — so his appearance on the show didn’t come as a complete surprise to the rapper’s fans. In response to a video of the show, one fan sarcastically tweeted, “I wonder who it could be.”
The bespoke stage looks created by Coach were unveiled five days ago when Lil Nas X performed their first show of the world tour in Detroit.
These include a pink, iridescent take on an American football jersey—although far more revealing—metallic-gold pants with a boxing champ-style belt (think C3PO, but hot) and a fuchsia silk shirt with puff sleeves and lace-up jacquard breeches .
“It was a really fun and inspiring experience working with Stuart [Vevers, Coach Creative Director] and the Coach team to create the looks for my first world tour,” Lil Nas X said in a statement.
“They really captured my vision and everything on the show comes together perfectly. I can’t wait for everyone to see her.”
So the Industry Baby rapper has become the fashion industry, baby, and it’s a pivot that’s been months in the making. Increasingly, Lil Nas X dominates every red carpet he appears on, opting for bold choices, bright colors and, more recently, big, big headwear.
The rapper was also praised for perfecting his gait and model poker face for his very first catwalk, and he even reappeared to officiate the show’s finale.
In a post-show Instagram post, Coach announced that Lil Nas X was a new global ambassador for the brand, and has posted several proud mother-like shots of him on the runway and on stage throughout his tour.
It looks like both the brand and the brand ambassador are very happy together, so live the partnership.
